I am surprised this is the top comment. Yes, I am sure they have done the paperwork for these "tons of thousands of dollars." I think it is unlikely that many shareholders are concerned about this exercise
Thanks for this, great list and PGs context is great to have next to the recommendations. The PG glamour shot may have been what made it come off like you were idolizing him
Well yeah, obviously. It surprises me that an idea as basic as this is newsworthy. Could someone please fill me in on what people thought was playing a larger role than this?
I would go out on a limb and say it's a LOT of Asprin. I usually use "surprising" on HN because anything more specific gets criticized surprisingly often, but that is a ton of asprin
Agreed. I also think such a spinoff would do well against ebay. I tried using paypal/ebay yesterday and gave up after 3 hours of trying to get a payment to go through. It was like going back in time to the 90s
A complete blackout of anything the political community decides is important is strange. I understand the danger of political flame wars, but interesting issues will often become politicized. Climate change and privacy have obviously become political, but that doesn't make those topics less interesting intellectually.
Even if opposing viewpoints are likely incorrect, there is some risk to omitting sections of the climate change discussion. There are many "things you can't say" about climate change.
Political threads are mostly bad when people use it as an outlet to complain and add nothing relevant to the discussion. This article is relevant since there is likely a disproportionate representation of Libertarians on HN
Another difficult problem is that people can create very strong opinions about things faster than they can gather all of the relevant information, even if the media does do a good job. The black lives matter movement made "hands up don't shoot" their rally cry and stayed with it even after we found out later that narrative wasn't true.
