I think that “почему/зачем?” is more of an entertainment question in Russia, because the most popular answer would be “it just so happens”. Like, all by itself. You will generally spend much more than three syllables (and maybe some amount of alcohol) to get your answer even from friends. Another fun observation about “почему” is that “normal” russians mostly deal with consequences of the processes out of their direct control. Snow and cold? Ok, find a shelter. Alien invasion? Ok, burn them down and return to a shelter. New “strange” law? Ok, it can’t be properly enforced, or someone will come up with a countermeasure in a week, no need to even leave a shelter. It’s all weather, you don’t question weather.
Second every line of this. If you can find someone else to handle all this stuff with quality that you can accept - do that and focus on your app instead. All that field types and cardinality mess are “easily” prevented with a bit of self-discipline, which you’re going to develop anyway if you really going to use your logs for incident response or statistics.
Looking into it for the current ELK replacement, looks great so far (especially simple enough query language). Offtopic: what do you use for load balancing logs in S3? I’m seeing basically two in-AWS options: Athena (but it lacks built-in fancy UI) or ship LB logs to the CloudWatch too.
TLD servers for .ru zone can answer questions like “who should I ask where kremlin.ru is?”, but before that there is a question “where .ru zone DNS servers are”, and that’s what root servers are supposed to answer. If - hypothetically - all root servers will answer “oh, .ru zone is served by that guy in Washington DC”, no DNS resolver would ask “real” .ru servers because list of root servers is effectively hard coded and changing it on all clients is a lot of work.
