Rowboat markets itself as "local-first," but if you look in the actual codebase, transcription is Deepgram cloud, voice is ElevenLabs, analytics is PostHog, and the LLM is a cloud API.
Why build it in such a way that there you're locked into one provider when you can just use this tool and have the ability to choose any provider in the future? I mean, even for fallbacks, like what if anthropic API is down that particular day when you need the service?

I did work on a project that was Rails 3, and for various reasons, it can never be upgraded without basically rebuilding the entire system. They keep hoping for an exit that will simply never happen because who would buy a rotting system like that? I think myself and only a few other devs there understood the situation. Its not like sales or the CEO fully understood.
Jekyll created static websites, with no database for an attack vector. I learned this the hard way after having a few digital ocean droplets compromised, no backups, etc. Thats one advantage.
