I agree with this. This is why every note I add must be repeated in spaced repetition style. This way I remember what is in my "mind palace" and keep ideas alive (or explicitly delete them / reduce their repetition period if they are bad). I use Obsidian with the repeat plugin.

That's a cool extension, I didn't know about it.

I built an entire app around the idea that every note participate sin the spaced repetition queue. For me it has made a lot of difference, as I have managed to internalize (as in put into a practice) a lot of the stuff that I put into my "second brain", for example insights from books I have read, videos I watched or blog posts, etc:

Like everyone else on this tread I built a note-taking system!

Mine is called MindPalace and its special feature is that it is focused on spaced repetition and remembering the notes after they were written.

For me, whenever I would take notes, they would become stale and forgotten. Despite Emerson's quote “I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”, I felt that there is a lot more to be gained from remembering them.

For instance, I can remember meetings past and insights gained by following up on meeting notes, or insights I got from reading books. I have almost a 1000 notes in my personal notebook.

I'd be curious if anyone else does "spaced repetition note taking" and if anyone can share cool tools for that (my tool is not particularly good)

I meant to say block scoped. Variables in python have function or global scope but no global scope. E.g. you can say

   for x in ...:

and then use x outside of the loop.

As for accessing dicts with a struct syntax, I prefer keeping dicts and objects different things (unlike Javascript).

And for JIT, there's numba!

I had the same problem which is why I made an app called MindPalace (https://github.com/msipos/mind-palace)

It's a note app where every note has a repetition schedule. The schedule can be dynamic (growing-shrinking) or fixed.

For example, my diary entries repeat every 365 days so I enjoy reading what my diary entries/thoughts were a year (or 2, or 3) years ago.

Ever since Gmail has introduced "snoozing" functionality I have been using it for this type of prioritization. If I receive an email, I will snooze it to a later time in the day/week when I will be going over random stuff. Unless the email needs a response right away, in which case I will reply to it immediately. In this way, I can achieve "inbox zero" which I have found helps a lot emotionally!

Greg Egan is my favorite author. My favorite book of his is Diaspora.

If you loved Permutation City you may also love Diaspora. The first chapter of Diaspora is brilliant, if you try reading it, and find that you enjoy it, you will then like the whole book.

It's been a busy lockdown at work but I have finally gotten around to open sourcing my self-hosted note system that has a unique twist: every note is repeated on its own schedule (kind of like spaced repetition). I now take notes on everything I read and put them into this. I also keep track of my own diary in it. This helps me retain information better and keep mindful about stuff that matters to me.
