GDPR is NOT entirely opt-in. For reasons of ‘legitimate interest’ a consent-less collection is warranted (ie. to perform the service). Yes, this does usually excludes data collection for marketing purposes. But it’s important to state that it’s not Entirely opt-in.

first thing I thought of when I lived in Denmark, but That loophole is closed. Cars bought in a foreign country need to be taxed if used permanently in Denmark. Otherwise ginormous fines.

Having lived in Copenhagen I can only attest the surge in living quality when a city adopts a no-compromise bicycle strategy. Back in car-loving Munich I feel set back a century. With city council members putting forward arguments like that bike lanes will “destroy retail businesses”. It’s frustrating.

As a German, I am quite happy about this. What you must know is that German organisations are extremely hierarchical, with little information flowing from frontline management to to top management. Hence, change only happens top down and only if the top managers in their ivory towers deem it necessary. But it’s incredibly important that our automakers reinvent themselves. And here we have the necessary angst to drive this long-needed transformation of our automotive sector.

All this Germany bashing and his constant condescending remarks remove a tad of his credibility, which is unfortunate when making such audacious claims. Is there anyone here on HN who has further reading advice on these claims (E.g that the € is malice by design)?

I, for one, work non-remote because of the social factor. Being among people physically is awesome (for me). And there’s surely a lot of founders who prefer building up a company with an on-site social environment. A co-working space does not count, because of the lack of continuity with your surrounding peers (ie. no common projects that lead to ‘being together’), hence its much harder to establish long-term relationships.
