Too bad they don't do that with alcohol... There's advertising for alcohol everywhere, often associated with sports club which is especially bad for young people. People drink everywhere even at the beach. There's a real alcohol problem here and it's a shame they don't spend as much energy fighting it because in the grand scheme of things, it's even worse than tobacco.
I remember hearing exactly the same about Facebook and even ... Google. Can't find the link anymore but there was a famous article from the NYT (IIRC) saying Google problem was finding a business model. Time will tell for snapchat.
Nice idea. No idea if it's even remotely realistic but if you can add Docker then you can run pretty much everything. There are some ways of adding Docker to Chromebooks but then you lose all security benefits at the moment.
The period after the French Revolution that threw down monarchy and more or less brought democracy to Europe was called the Terror [1] as well and tens of thousands of people were guillotined or executed (that was quite a lot of people at the time). Unfortunately, when oppressed people overcome the power in place, bad things happen as the results of the change in the balance of powers. IMHO this is similar to what happened when Bolsheviks took over the tsars and Communist Chinese put down the Emperor. I am of course not condoning violence (I am French and still in shock with what just happened) but I think these examples are sometimes more a sign of the people getting rid of hundreds (thousands) years of oppression than a particular political alignment. Unfortunately history is rich of mass killings in the name of politics, religions and other ideologies.
I found it valuable to know that my friends and family in Paris are safe, so I'm grateful to FB for doing that. OTH It saddens me and make me wonder what kind of world we live in for FB to release such a feature.
What I find the most surprising here is how optimised the v8 engine is. Javascript code running on v8 is as performant as native go code or as optimised C code. Obviously it's just a use case but still, mind blowing.
That really smells like FUD. Sass is Ruby for example not node. Ruby has been much more unstable than node AFAIK. And python hasn't even been able to move to version 3 so not sure it's the best example. I really like both python and Ruby BTW. Haters gotta hate...
