If Amazon is down in the US, would this work? The fact that they mention “any Amazon customer can access this” makes me think it’s intermingled / not cleanly separated and isolated from US infrastructure
I first read about insulin's role in weight loss in Ferriss' book "Four Hour body", and the results from his approach have been pretty impressive (tracked 3,500 people and 84% of them lost weight)
There are a bunch of reasons why it's valuable for Quora to be a YC company:
We'll have Sam and all the other partners to help us.
We get to be part of the YC community / alumni network of founders.
We get access to all the resources of YC.
We were raising money anyway, so there was no overhead in letting YC participate - this ends up the same for us as if we had just raised slightly more money from Tiger. And independent of the benefits to Quora, I think it will be fun personally to participate in some of the YC events. I hope my perspective can help some of the other companies.
re: cell phone bills, have you thought about getting a raspberry-pi or a larger server running asterisk with chan_dongle, and using a prepaid sim card at each country as your "gsm gateway"(1)?
