I interned at Walmart Technology in 2014. All of the interns had to participate in an innovation challenge, and one of the teams had this very idea. I can only assume that Walmart explored the idea and passed on it.
This is interesting to me because I often see rolling my own X as having a higher cost than bringing in a dependency. Maybe this is due to a lack of experience on my part, so I’m curious what you all consider when evaluating the cost of a dependency?
Anybody know why this was removed from the Hacker News feed? When I saw this post, it was at the very top of the feed. A few minutes later I refreshed the feed, and it was gone.
As pointed out in other comments, there are multiple large cities within a 300 mile radius. Even if there weren't, saying there is "nothing" there dismisses the real lives and businesses that are there.
