I think we're seeing just how huge a difference the genes for tasting make. A super taster vs a low taster will treat food (kind of a big deal if you want to stay alive) extremely differently.
I wonder which was a better evolutionary adaptation in the past? And which is better in the industrialized world today?
Like Native Americans? But seriously, if you are a true libertarian and believe all humans are equal, why does it matter if someone is an actual American?
Well yes. Plenty because even one human is plenty. But plenty compared to how many people died in WWII? Or WWI? Or any real war we had before?
Compared to what happened immediately before, the cold war was incredibly peaceful.
So I suspect this new cyber war will continue the trend and keep real killings to 0. I do believe we will have a real internet hacking and protecting and counter hacking "war" if you will. But I suspect, and obviously hope, no one actually dies from it.
That's almost correct. What you describe is true for the relationship between CEOs and the board. Or execs and other execs, neither over, nor below them, in the management structure. Those are corporate peers.
For those under your management the relationship is more similar to a military command structure.
Luckily corporate officers can't order you to kill or die. But corporate underlings don't elect their managers. There are many more people being managed, than there are peers.
I'd take the drink over the junk an average American eats any day.
Me too. But just because junk food is worse, does not mean this is good. I for one would not take this over: Eat food, mostly plants, get exercise and lots of sleep.
Darkest Secret? More like an open secret. It has not yet affected me, as I am quite old enough yet. But I have seen in in large corporations. It's bad management, very sad, and would be almost impossible to prove in a law suit.
It's also why I will definitely try to transition to either entrepreneurship or contracting before I hit 40.
This seems like a very long way to describe the very old advice of never being the first to say a number. There are better articles online, specific to salary negotiation and how to refuse to give a number without being a dick about it.
I do not believe this can be something which you could use to read by. Light takes a lot of energy and biology does not waste energy. And plants don't even have the metabolism of a fly. This is very neat. I'll probably donate enough to get seeds. But I do not believe it is a light bulb replacement.
Yes, what? If you think about it like a SciFy movie, it is guaranteed to result in a gigantic, walking plant, smarter than a human, which wants to destroy us all. Also ghosts some how.
If you actually think about it, than the chances of those 30 characters, being something which will help the plant survive and thrive in the wild, are tiny. Virtually non existent.
Any one currently thriving wild plant has a better chance of mutating itself in that way. Any current wild plant could become an invasive species by sticking one of its seeds the the shoe of a human getting on a plane.
People way overestimate the chances of bio-engineering to create anything truly dangerous. And people way underestimate the chances of the regular old all natural flu to kill a huge percentage of humanity in any given year.
My personal anecdote: When I lived in a small town with fios and Time Warner and Comcast, every offer was far cheaper and better than when I moved to a much bigger city with only Time Warner.
The problem is that lay people have essentially no ability to distinguish between potential 'last shots'. And exemptions will invite snake-oil salesmen.
So because some people will be duped, let's doom everyone to death.
