Once you have an EU wide digital identiy+authentication (with multifactor and biometrics and all that)
You can then move onto implementing fine grained authorization for people to manage what data various government agencies get and can share
They will probably create a system very similar to what Okta does which is great as it would save 27 countries reinventing the wheel, and one thing about security that is important is not to reinvent the wheel.
I recently moved to a new team after using Kotlin for a few years (serverside) and transition back to Java is realy annoying, so much boiler plate and rituals and needless code.
Instead of concentrating on solving problems it feels like my job now is to do the elaborate java dance. Alot of muttering and cringing from me.
I think Jetbrains should have called Kotlin Java++ instead (yes i know theres alot more to Kotlin than JVM) as it would have made it an easier sell in enterprise world to management who dont realise how much overlap and interop with Java there is when using Kotlin, nor the possible productivity gains from not having to create as much code, having better type system and nullability/immutability features and about dozen other features which make Kotlin such a nice language to work in day to day.
Anyways yeh, hopefully can steer team back to Kotlin, they should like it, just like previous team came to love it.

Which is a bit absurd as you can pick anything in modern world, literally anything such as computers/phones in front of us reading this and point that XYZ damage was caused to the planet by the shiny macbook in front of us or android phone, not to mention the huge network of datacenters around the world from which the information is stored/streamed.
Until there is highly efficient zero loss superconductor long range networks of several orders of magnitude better energy storage then saying that energy "is wasted" on crypto is very misleading, that energy could be coming from a dam up in a mountain enjoying a sudden influx of rain or windmills/solar in middle of nowhere with no nearby large population centers to absorb this energy (lack of efficient long range transmission infrastructure and/or energy storage).
The problem like always with UK is its fundamentally undemocratic political foundations which results in all sorts of crazy policy paths being followed (Brexit is most recent example) which anywhere else in the world would leave people scratching their heads. I am specifically refering to a lack of constitution, first past the post elections as opposed to proportional representation (STV), elected not herediaty head of state, and representatives in parliament mostly coming from upper Etonian "caste" and not representing society (or other parts of UK for that matter).
Compare UKs political system to the Republic next door, where despite an arguably worse housing crisis the economy is flying (even during Covid it was one of the better in Europe)
