The problem with calling them “young people” or “young adults” is that the members of these groups change all the time while the boomers or Millennials will always be the same people. This makes it difficult to read or write about differences between “young people” and "old people" because the situation might be different 10 years later. But naming the generations will mean that the writing stays accurate.
