I think one aspect that the article misses, is the fact that the public can't make an informed decision with their votes if the government has secrets.
It seems that over the last 5 years the number of exit nodes has remained relatively constant [1], I assume to the risks associated with running an exit node. What is Tor doing the increase number of exit nodes?
Yeah the situation is pretty bad. Recently the human rights commission released the report about the affects of detention on children. The government not only ignored it but went after the head of the commission and tried to force her to resign.
