As it turns out, skirmishes with the US Government using US Law aren't very successful. You can pretend you gain awareness that the laws are completely bent out of shape, but you must also become aware of the motivation and morale that was lost. Whatever we've won being aware that the law will not help in this case, we've lost in self-censorship and awareness that to truly stand against this system can very likely hurt your professional and personal well-being.
Very little will be won by skirmishing with the redcoats in the open fields. This will be realized soon enough; why else would we have so many years of media invested in developing such a deep emotional connection with the word 'terrorism', which can now so broadly be applied. As always, the masses are a day late and a dollar short.
I think you just extrapolated his comment about trust. I can trust most CEO's to be invested in the advancement of their company, but I wouldn't trust them not to speed in traffic. I would not however expect a CEO to be using his position to sabotage the company for some other company.
American's have largely trusted their government's actions to be in the interest of the country as a whole, that veneer is skipping away.
... but hey, it's easier to dogpile on a down-voted posted, as that is the nature of social creatures. It's never enough to gray-out a post, everyone must down-vote in a play to damage disagreeable posts!

The 'correct' dialog is to discuss how it's natural for our systems of governance to want to spy on everyone, and the 'correct' actions fall between accepting this or petitioning our masters to roll back 'some' of these advances.

Interesting, but I doubt it would go far in helping anything. You can't cut and disperse the cancer growing inside of the US Government and expect anything to be solved or fixed, it needs to be uprooted and burned. Would any of this address secret courts, police brutality, domestic propaganda, or corruption? It'll have to be all at once, otherwise it's just rearranging the furniture in our cell.
