This is what you'll do:
Lead 16 Bit’s product development and launch which will include a flexible on-premise and cloud-based platform which will be used to deliver breakthrough AI medical algorithms
Provide leadership to the team on all things cloud, virtual machines, containers and scalability
Employ a microservices architecture to construct components of our platform which provides medical AI inference-as-a-service
Develop and maintain front-end web interfaces
Design and consume RESTful APIs
Setup and manage customer and development databases
Securely deploy containerized applications to customers via cloud platforms or custom installations at healthcare institutions
Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code
Develop product documentation to ensure regulatory compliance for software-as-a-medical device (SaMD) (i.e. software requirement specifications, user manuals etc)

What types of sequences does your algorithm run on (looks like DWI/ADC)? One could make the argument that if it is on standard sequences done for other diagnostic purposes, hence not requiring any additional time or money, this tool could be used to provide info to radiologists who are not typically going to look for these changes (nor can they do this as precise as machines).
I am working in a similar domain (www.16bit.ai) and am a radiologist. I think there is utility in this quantitative analysis despite there not being an intervention yet, despite what others are saying. The reason is because in order for others to measure the effectiveness of new treatments a gold standard and reproducible way of measuring the disease is necessary. I think drug companies working in this area would be quite excited about this if it can be shown to be a reliable predictor. As for direct to consumer marketing (ie. 23andme model) that some have suggested - its possible but it will be tough to educate patients to go and get their MRI images from their hospital for this purpose. I live and practice in Canada so my views and experiences of this may be a bit skewed. Best of luck!
I purchased the new 13" MBP with touchbar when it came out. As my first Apple laptop, I have to say it has changed my life and the way I use other devices.
I will admit the touchbar is a tad gimmicky. There are a few things I would change and I am waiting on many apps to upgrade to include some touchbar functionality (chrome canary currently supports touchbar contextual buttons). One thing that is kind of annoying about it is the Siri button - I’ve accidently clicked it more than meaningfully. This being said, I don’t regret the upgrade over the traditional model and I would recommend it. I think the argument of having to look down at the keyboard is a bit ridiculous.
The dongle situation is not even really an issue either. I bought two USB 3 -> C adapters and keep one at home and one in my bag. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve used them. I do think Apple could have AT LEAST included one of these with the purchase. The Apple TV airplay integration is so good you can stream action movies without lag, obviating the need for an HDMI or other video output. For the smaller and lighter profile, this tradeoff is justified.
Battery life is pretty good. It could be better but I can go a day of heavy use with two charges (ie. charging mid-day).
The large trackpad and force touch is a joy to use and the keyboard is remarkably clicky despite its low-profile. All in all, its a great machine and the additional functionality will come as apps slowly upgrade to support the touchbar.
He has achieved "rock-star" status in academia - quite deservingly. I wonder how much more he will contribute directly to the field during the remainder of his career. I suppose once you reach his level focusing on these grander initiatives will help create a legacy.
Funny aside: I saw him walking up University Ave a few weeks ago. He was all bundled up in a coat and hood. It was cold out, but I also suspect he is becoming recognizable as a celebrity by some and prefers to keep a low profile. If I had recognized him earlier I probably would have tried to stop and chat.
Exactly. To invite people to stay here we need unicorn companies that young talent actually want to work for. I don't think this solves that problem as efficiently as possible. Would they be better giving that money to local startups in the space in hopes they become a unicorn and stay in Canada?
I am wondering if anybody knows of an open-source project focused on designing the hardware and software for “recreational” ultrasound machines. I think like 3D printers (reprap etc), there would be a sizable group of hobbyists and tech savvy individuals in the medical community who would be interested. I don’t know quite enough about the electronics to initiate something like this but would definitely pitch it.

I think HTML5 at the moment is great for making prototype mobile apps. Getting traction before investing in a native app hedges a lot of risk. The approach (native vs. web) also depends on the type of app and the customers you are trying to reach. There is a time and place for both and i think the times and places for HTML5 will only increase in the future.
