I had a different experience with the Economist. I forgot to cancel and was billed. I emailed saying I forgot to cancel, could I unsubscribe now? And got a quick reply saying they'd cancelled and also refunded me despite me not asking.
I recently cancelled again after getting the 1-month renewal warning, and immediately got a 50% off offer, so I'll probably subscribe again.

If he is Satoshi, and what he's saying about being forced to reveal his identity now is true, it would make sense to provide the minimum that the threateners would accept, knowing that the community wouldn't buy it. And yet the images he used in his letter came from Shutterstock, rather than directly contacting a photographer and checking they're okay with their image being used to illustrate the point he's making.
Not saying this isn't a problem, just that he doesn't like it when it brings him less money, yet he uses it in other industries because it's convenient.
Having some way to filter out the big agglomerators would be nice - obviously you can use 'buy used car -autotrader', but the majority of users don't realise they can do that, even if they would like to.
Actually, my mum uses it all the time. She's a primary school teacher, and it works great for children's worksheets, seeing as the 'a' is formed the way we learn to write it at school. Yes there's other fonts with 'a's like that, but not ones that are available on all computers by default.
I too learn effectively when I've got outstanding lecturers lecturing at me. However that's rarely the case - some lecturers don't really care for the students; some care but aren't that great at lecturing... So in practice, lectures don't even always work for students who learn effectively from lectures.

If you 'could write a long post explaining the many inaccuracies in this article', please do so! That way Modern Microcredit can edit their article if necessary to take it into account, and also, your lenders, who will undoubtably be reading the article, will see a polite and informative founder intent on setting the record straight rather than a quick-to-anger, quick-to-attack founder who doesn't bother to defend the company.
I know what you mean, and mostly agree with you. What they did was actually a good thing, but for the wrong reasons. I doubt that on a high-up level, this was done for the good of the everyday Cuban person.
This is the first I've seen of this project, it looks inspirational. But how did you choose the projects? I've often wanted to do a small project just for the sake of making something nice and pretty, and improving my skills at the same time, but I can never come up with anything. All your ideas are great - but I can't imagine being able to come up with one a day for 6 months!
Also, how did the project work out time-wise? Were you working at the same time? Roughly how long did you spend on each site?
She might not have done the most complicated things in the world - I'm no expert "coder" but I've done more complex things than her.
BUT I'd bet she's a better "coder" than me. She will be rock solid on all the basics, so she has a great base to do more complicated things. For the more complicated things I've done, I was relying heavily on stackoverflow searched and the like, and although I made complicated things that worked, they were probably fairly basic mistakes and things that could cause future problems that Jen wouldn't have made/done.
Too many people these days (me among them) jump in without knowing how to swim and then struggle to stay afloat. Jen taught herself to swim first.
