I lived in Portland for years - and it's the same. Even if you did get someone on the phone, I doubt anything would happen. There's tons of cars without plates, mufflers, windshields, etc. driving around that the police don't care about.
I think the rafts you're looking at are just gear rigs, on long multi-day trips usually there is only one person with a set of oars. The boats have frames and lots of cargo space for food, clothes, toilets, tents, kitchen, etc.
Depending on the size of the boat and the difficulty of the river you can have more people on them, but still only one person rows.
If you add all your bulbs to Homekit you can control them all from there. I have all my Hue bulbs in Homekit and haven't touched the Hue app for years, it's also accessible from the iOS Control Center.

It does fail if you have a mask on, if you have goggles covering half your face, or if you have a helmet that covers your face... but to me that is all completely understandable.
I think what gdubs was trying to get across is that sure, there are problems, people to blame, etc. but now is not the time. We have to get our act together and handle the situation. We can't have petty fighting betweeen parties.
Now is the time to unite and act. We can fight, argue and point fingers once this is all behind us.
We're already most of the way there with self checkout. My local Home Depot only has self checkout now, with 1 person managing something like 10-15 registers. They left the person running the "Pro"/lumber checkout area, but that area looks like it's being set up for self checkout too. They also seem to have removed the Garden Center checkout.
I'm not saying it's a great thing, just that the jobs Just Walk Out will be replacing are already being replaced by self checkout.
And they didn't just do that with AWS. They did it with ecommerce as well. Become the biggest online retailer, nail the implementation, then get everyone else to jump on your platform.
I think it's also due to recycling being easier to integrate into our lifestyles than reducing or reusing. We have enough wealth to just buy another, and throw the excess in the recycling bin where someone else deals with the problem.
When you visit less wealthy countries, you see people reducing and re-using. They either don't have as easy of access to all these goods, or the cost of them makes the people re-use the stuff around the house.
For example, I could use empty beer cans to start seedlings for my garden, but I've instead bought those nice black gardening pots. I have the money to and it's easier than keeping beer cans around then modifying them to drain right.

The real feature I would want from an IoT candle is to be able to turn it off if I leave the house or go to sleep. You have to phyiscally put a lid on this candle to turn it off?
