There is one thing he gets right though: there's a good chance "reddit" is simply not a business. I like Reddit, but there's no reason for a Big Media Company to own such a thing. They should cut their losses and sell it. Maybe someone can figure out how to run it with a small enough staff (say 10 people) so the $5MM/year revenue is enough for them.
We're using CodeCommit for our internal projects. Not everything is "open source" and while GitHub does allow for private projects I prefer a system that's locked down with keys for authentication with no chance I'll click the wrong preference box on a web form and make our work publicly browsable.
GitHub and CodeCommit solve different problems. If you don't need/want a community, CodeCommit is a better option.
