It's not a matter of the browser features anymore, but rather the company behind it. Say we all switch back to IE11 tomorrow... I am pretty sure Microsoft will abuse its power just like they did during IE6 era.
That's exactly why I went with Django/Python instead of RoR/Ruby.
I have no problem with keeping software up-to-date but I don't want to make that a main task because some "cool" kids easily get bored and keep phasing out stuff which break production apps and/or causes security issues.
From my +10 years experience in the hosting industry, I'd say in this case the best way to spend the $3,000 is to buy Xbox One and some other cool gadgets.
