This sounds like a step down for both openai and sama. Microsoft probably wins here as they still have access to openai tech and now the only entity with access to the same talent pool as was there before last Friday.
I am not sure about stock market summary and similar stuffs. I created a stock earnings report summariser [1] using the recently announced GPT from OpenAI. It is pretty handy and cool. This is not something Google can replicate for everybody’s niche needs.
I see a lot of value in the form of convenience from GPTs. It helps to avoid repeating the intial prompts for things that you want to do multiple times. For eg: I created a GPT for stock earnings call report anlaysis [1] which helps me to get the analysis or summary by just entering the company name or stock ticker. This is at least a huge improvement in UI which makes me comeback and use it frequently.
I think the omission of usb3 is because of the reuse the Apple silicon from last year which doesn’t have the builtin usb3 IP. Let’s wait for next year’s non-pro models to see if they are really cheapening out.
Apart from the software stack, Nvidia has invested a lot in the networking infrastructure for high bandwidth between gpu in a cluster. I think their acquisition of Mellanox might have helped here.
So competing on server grade gpu might be more difficult for intel.
Some OS’s zram compress the unpinned pages instead of swapping to disk. It might be faster than fetching the pages again from disk. I wonder if this is a reason why folks see different results.
After I used a dslr camera for few months, I notice small ugly artefacts in my iPhone 12 mini’s pics. Along with that, smartphone pics has a weird distortion which is very noticeable with the wide angle lens, but it is noticeable now to me with even the regular lens. Sort of like background compression, which i find pretty ugly. I think this is a physical limitation of a small sensor and lens. Not sure why nobody has fixed that with computational photography. All I want is to have my pics look like a shot with standard 50mm lens. I don’t care about bokeh actually.
You won’t notice these things until you are familiar with pics from a dslr camera.
It might be difficult for us to imagine a shift to VR version of social media. But think about the next generation of kids growing up with these kind of techs. They will mass adopt them and we will follow. For Facebook, it was millennials who adopted first and for Snapchat/tiktok, GenZ.
And Facebook will get the opportunity to own the platform completely for the first time. So the soon they reach their goal, the better. Actually, it is a smart move.
Here in India, I have found that just casually asking for a discount will instantly get you a small discount in a lot cases. You just need to look not excited at the product and politely ask if there is a discount. Or at least if they can round the price to nearest hundred. Basically, this is zero effort savings.
For costly things, it is better to cross check with a few stores to get an idea about the local price and ask what is the best they can do. You can let them know you have checked other stores, but don’t share the details of other offers. Sometimes, checking with a store over a phone call might get you a better deal, because yours is a zero effort deal for them which they don’t want to lose to a competitor and also, they won’t be able to read you like they can in case of an in-person bargaining.
I usually try to avoid who doesn’t show even a tiny interest in a negotiation. It is better to give business to someone who is willing to spent some time discussing with customer.
Being said all these, I don’t spend too time much on this to milk out every possible discount. It is a trade off between time/happiness vs saving money.
Maybe because bluetooth is stuck with 2.4ghz band. So when you move the noisy wifi out of this band, bluetooth gets extra bandwidth to transfer higher quality audio.
I wonder if we put AI in a humanoid form, it may find a more efficient form of movement with limbs which look very odd to us. Then we need to put some hacks or artificial constraints to make it behave similar to a human.
