WARNING: Outraged people being outraged!
Companies have been targeting specific demographics since the beginning of time. Most McDonalds commercials on the radio are recorded using black people. But not the one for their iced-mocha coffee drinks! What, are they trying to say that motivated, independent business women like coffee? Sexists! Racists! Misogynists! Communists!

Ironically, as an African-American, I find this article far more offensive than the McDonald's site.
I think people of all races, colors, and creeds can come together to be offended by this hand-waving, contentless, link-baiting nonsense that somehow hasn't been flagged into oblivion yet.
Maybe that's just me.
Maybe that's just me.
really? why?
Let me preface this with the fact that I don't think the author had any bad intentions here.
That said, the article exposes a latent mentality of "there are white people and then there's this big group of 'diverse' non-white people who are all pretty much the same."
So let me get it straight: the author is offended by the idea of having community sites that appeal to different cultures and thinks the solution is ... having "a diversity website saying they support all different kinds of cultures, races, charities and organizations" instead?? Give me a break.
IMHO "celebrating diversity" isn't pretending that there are no differences and putting all minorities under one big umbrella; it's knowing that we're all different, having no problem with it, and enjoying the variety.

What's offensive about this? Sure, it's obviously McDonald's trying to increase its profile amongst a specific demographic but, um, so what?
Umm, yeah are you offended by Black Entertainment Television? It's been around since the early 90s; created by enterprising african americans, which i bet a same demographic created this!
black entertainment brings a great deal of cultural differences that may or may not be more suited to black people. But food?
I'm half-Vietnamese and I would find it absolutely hilarious if McDonalds had a recruiting site targeting Vietnamese people. Or even just children of Asian immigrants. It could have advice on how to deal with your parents when they flip out that you're a) serving fries and b) not a doctor.
They do have a site for Asian customers: http://www.myinspirasian.com/
Under "Asian Phrases Challenge" you can learn how to say "Let's go do some karaoke." Priceless.
I also like that they're "Asian" phrases.

"Mom and Dad, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, I'm finally going to college. The bad news is, I'm going to Hamburger University."
McDonald's has also been selling "Shamrock Shakes", green mint-flavored milkshakes that used to have an Irish mascot, for about forty years.
Dammit, and Ford's doing it too: http://www.fordurban.com/
You know what, I'm not going to compile all of these out there. But if you're surprised by this, you might be an engineer (and not a marketer). /That's right, I went Foxworthy on you.

And if you click through the site has horribly offensive sections like:
Education (scholarships) Employment Career Development Entrepreneurship
There is a reason I don't read Digg.

In other words, McDonalds is using demo-specific websites to promote hiring from within those communities. How is this news?
