Not sure how this makes sense when I am driving an excellent Mercedes EV today.

While they do sell ICE vehicles still they have a great line of EVs and clearly are moving more in that direction.

To me, this is more like "maybe hold off on buying a vehicle for just a bit longer until we got our shit in order (and know exactly how much we can charge you)."
