This is great news. As someone living in Asia, with first hand view of the CCP's expansionist threat for the benefit of the China elites (including blatant wholesale territorial takeover in South China Sea region and disrespect for the sovereignty for a whole swathe of regional neighbours), I applaud this.

For you maybe. The only things US is exporting in EU are guns, almonds, some cars and some chemical products. Clothes are made in S-E Asia, electronics in East Asia (including China) (Designed in California - Made in China), food comes from EU China or Africa.

This kind of decoupling could be seen in the early 20th century leading to a world war. So not obvious whether it is good or bad.

Really? Do you mean countries stopped trading with Germany and lead to the rise of Adolph Hitlers nazi party ? Or do you mean something else? Because if China thinks they’re going to be the next adolf Hitler if we stop buying Chinese crap - I’m not sure that’s a valid argument. Chinese goods are plainly inferior quality , they do not respect patents or trademarks and they completely ignore environmental guidelines, none of these same things can be said for German made goods after the treaty of Versailles. If in fact that the period you are referring to, as your comment is unclear.

Terrific! Any country with proper environmental standards should have open trade.
Those who do not - should have heavy (large) environmental (based) tariffs. For example any country caught not following the Montreal protocol should have all their products in that category charged a 2000% tariff, or in other words a tariff proportional to the difference in destruction of the earth verses following the environmental rules.
