Having patents isn't patent trolling. Now that Tofu has more developers than Terraform I guess patents are a way to prevent Tofu from insta-cloning new Terraform features.
Well, given their leadership, which behavior led to deleting a video exposing their true colors, I am not going to be surprised if HashiCorp goes after competitors and turns into a patent troll being outnumbered, which was something they did to themselves as an act of desperation.
Basically, HashiCorp is everything that its community stands against! It's hard to earn trust, but so easy to lose it!

Was this the video from HashiConf? Any links or transcripts?
Violates headline rule
True, but otherwise it would seem like a free ad for a future troll.
The business strategy: create a highly-limited open-source product, switch the license type, and then offer a patented solution of the problem!
Most of the TFC was a catchup play with Sclar, Env0, and Spacelift for those monitoring the space.
It is sad that HashiCorp, failing to monetize its TFE/TFC, is now turning into the wrong type of company!
