Nevertheless, I sympathize with you because people can make big mistakes and learn from it but the categorization and stigma remains.
I like the eclectic selection of problems. I wish I had seen something like this when I was growing up; a manageable set of problems with the hint of depth.

Pipelines are performant; many algorithms can be expressed as pipelines. Bash has many built-in string manipulation mechanisms which do not require a sub shell.

Bash was the first scripting language I became “good” in too! The skill seems to be regularly devalued in this community, and there is no surprise why (what is collaboration and maintenance for $500).
However, it’s hard to ignore why bash masters are born in the first place if better tools exist - shouldn’t the best tool win in the long run?
My take is lone wolf hackers working in corporate /_/nix constrained environment who become proficient, prolific and efficient win the corporate version of “survival of the fittest”.
On my second day at work they let go of the dozen people who had been our groups training “buddies” the night before. That sends a strong message. In the five subsequent years, I can’t recall anyone else getting let go. I later learned that my cohort was rare in that we were hired directly without doing seasonal employment. Every other group hired after me, they would select their top picks from the seasonal cohorts of 20-30 people. One year they hired no one, one year they hired more than 10.
There were some people I thought were lazy, but many people on my night shift were hard and proud worker.. not like that day shift though!
He is free to compute as he desires. He has worked a lifetime for that freedom. As for a luddite, he has enabled generations to forge new wild techno paths.. So literally the opposite of a luddite.
Curious to know why the HN title is using `FOSS` but only mention of `FOSS` is on the site’s /faq page. For free software zealots, the sites tag line “... maintaining popular open source projects...” may not spur action as OSS is missing that required RMS approved F.
uhmm.. Staring into a book while listening to silence.. staring into a wall listening to music.. These are introspective journeys. You can’t expect everyone to be social in person from day 13.. Some ppl need time before they bloom socially. Social blooming is different for everyone.
Speculation to follow: Health care as an industry is significantly more profitable than the proactive/preventative healh programs. Eliminating insurance removes a volatility dimension. Preventing problems (if possible) saves infinite suffering but costs someone profit.
I knew a tree planter who lived in a tent within a tent and inside the outer tent was a dozen jugs piss. He never bothered to empty the jugs until the camp relocated.
Also, it’s not impossible to defecate without a bathroom. Tree planters I knew would deficate in the bush a million miles away from a bathroom and they’d wipe their bums with sticks and leaves - they would do this regularly and brag about it. They enjoyed to defecate in front of people too and that’s how you knew they wern’t lying about the sticks and leaves.
If you were sick, you would lie in yr tent until you were not sick puking in garbage bags. If you got too sick someone could drive you into town.
Some people are just hard like that and guess what - those are the people that are going to want to live in a van and save $$$ on rent.
Yield is a function of energy to the foilage that feeds the flowering buds. The largest bud is usually at the top of the plant since light tends to be placed above a plant. During flowering, if you can distribute energy more evenly among the foiliage, you can increase yield by ~ 1/3 or more. Outdoor growers are reported to attach a string to the top of a plant when flowering begins, and bend the plant in an upside down `U` in order increase light distribution.
