If uber cared about guaranteeing your trip to the airport, guarantee it will come and guarantee it's worth the drivers time. If uber cared about folks in the suburbs then guarantee a driver won't go 30 miles one way and then hope they'll get a ride that will take then back home instead of possibly further away.
This "ecosystem" had many of changes to be fair to the drivers and still guarantee a level of experience for the passengers. But the execs of uber have ALWAYS been fast to shove the burden onto the driver for their profit.

You're going through 100s of applications at a time. So many of them are clearly just spammed applications hoping something will stick. If they have a cover letter, 4/5 times its so generic it's probably the same one for every app.
Why should I respond to that? It would take me more time than it took them, and half of them are woefully underqualified. Note that for the apps I see that clearly took time, I do reach out. Sometimes just to let them know their app was well done, and wish them the best.
On the other side, when I applied I assumed I'd get no contact back. If I did get a human response, THEN I would expect a "thanks but sorry" email. But it just makes no sense when applying to a job means two clicks, to expect that every company is going to give you a hand crafted message back.
For real. You should only be using HN as a social outlet, or for casual conversations. It seems like a lot of products shown here are just devs developing for what other devs talk about. Or abstracting a formula for how to saas and then applying it to whatever tech seems approachable.
