My ex-boss completed his PhD thesis with author of this doc as his advisor. So some of the ideas seem relevant since they popped up in few of the work related conversations with my boss.
I can totally relate to points articulated in first and second paragraph.
It took me something harsh and physical event to realize how much I've not been myself. It prompted me to give up everything dear but unncessary and unproductive things for a short term as a punishment for myself.
It worked. It showed results (albeit in short-term) and then I started journalling reports about myself. Having a honest conversation of what works and what consequences I have of acting from impulsive thinking and drifting away from my real life goals.
This is 4th month since I made the pivot and so far things are definitely better. I think its mainly a battle between your brain's system 1 and system 2. You gotto do things that system 2 has thought and planned out. Because system 1 can be irrational and get us into doing things that only have short term benefit.
This may not be news to everyone. The Economist have started sharing their data on Github [0]. I wonder if this is one-off publication of data or it is general trend to share their data publicly. A welcome move.
The concern among many eastern countries regarding cloud usage is location of data storage. ADAS system could rely on cloud for
- Getting updated maps (HD in some cases)
- Storing/uploading camera data for analytics/replay
among other things...
JFYI, Apple CarPlay never have been an OS. People often get confused between the foundation SW that OEM provides and consumer overlay that companies like Apple, Google provide. Both are not the same. One cannot replace another.

This is only partially true.
India has factories that provide inter-mediate parts required for creating final product. For example, a car needs axles, engine, dashboard plastics, alloy for body, brakes and electronics. You are more likely to find an Indian name in top-10 vendors for above parts sorted by marketshare. With the exception of engine, transmission, they have expanded.
What it does lack is tack of exporting finished products such as iPhone or smartphone or cars or jets.
And I think this will be a long process. Someone with deep pockets like Apple is willing to bet and here we are.
Text book blame game now after realizing the cost.
Often, the builders and contractors have dealings with politicians to get favors and perks.
I am not accusing or calling that there is corruption between politicians and builders. But one of the criterion that Turkey is measuring for its inclusion in EU is corruption. It would be interesting to see impact of this on corruption scores in EU progress report. It has already been noted that there is no progress in fight against corruption [^a]
Sadly this has been a norm in countries/places with a mix of corruption and ineffective enforcement of laws.
Back in my home town in India, tons of my relatives have built huge multi-storey buildings all the while ignoring the city code about spacing between adjacent buildings or distance of structure from main road.
That's not to say that everyone ends up kicking the rules, but the number of people who have done that in past 20+years makes me wonder how is it that easy to not follow municipal building code.
Hope, that it doesn't take a natural calamity for people to realize the importance of code and the local civil enforcement starts using its power!
