I'd really like to see a longitudinal study that models something like:

   log(mean_realized_income) ~ log(mean_expected_future_income)

People who go into humanities don't expect to make a million dollars. Research like this verifies common assumptions, but to me they always have a sunspot study feel to them.

I'm similar. I used to always listen to music while coding, but over time I realized for a lot of work, it really is a bad distraction. I don't think it was a symptom of routing synchronization specifically, but I'd be curious to know if it was a case of unexpected and undesired synchronization. (E.G. An independent and random cluster of blocks suddenly updated; the network was saturated; it pulled in more updates; ...)

And yes, the paper talked about randomization. It also pointed out the magnitude of randomization required was larger than expected.

It's been my experience that trying to find a good person to work with is like dating. If you're actively trying to find someone, you seem to have less luck than if you're not trying to find someone and you often settle for something less than great.

My advice is to go find find some open source projects that tackle a problem you find interesting and contribute. In the process of working on open source projects, you'll find people that you can work with well. They might be useful in the future.

1) Explicit privacy policy that never stores DNS requests on a per-client basis. I haven't followed the ISP retention laws but they seemed to be getting more and more ominous.

2) While caching DNS record, when freshing up a stale record,

  if(isknownSeizureDomain(record)) ignore();

I mentioned this in the Poker thread. (If I had time right now, I'd consider implementing it.) I would like and would use a DNS service that 1) did not keep any record of my queries and 2) would not propagate government takedowns (e.g. by ignoring updates with NS:ns2.cirfu.net.

Okay. This makes me want to indulge in youthful indignation.

If I saw this and was at a company like OpenDNS, I'd start considering saying "No. Sorry. We're going reverting back to the last good record." The federal government might have technical jurisdiction, and U.S. customers might technically be violating U.S. laws but the ability of the federal government to seize internet properties terrifies me because it might set a national and international precedent. (Other countries already do this, but U.S. doing it kinda makes it globally sanctioned.) I'm terrified of a slippery slope, even though I usually find slippery slope arguments dubious. (Plus, I just think this is a dumb seizure to begin with...)
