Does this system require poverty & struggling? Does it require an alternate class of people who still do required work, but will always be living right on the edge?

How do you account for the fact that when accounting for inflation, a lot of the country hadn't seen a wage increase since the 70's[1]? The cost of essential goods has gone up. A lot of people are seriously on the edge and aren't spending on useless consumption.
I think what you have are people trying to survive, and another subset of people who are surviving perfectly fine and are comfortable but have become rampant consumers due to advertising. I know engineers in the latter circumstance.

I didn't have the opportunity or even know what a 401k was except at a high level until I was 26 in my first 'big job'. I'm 28 and still haven't put any money into it because I cannot afford to in a corporate IT position. I'm still trying to pay down my health insurance deductible so I can get my medications. How can I ever retire? At this point, I'm going to work until I die.
Not sure how this is my fault when I'm educated and work 45 hours per week and am away from home for 60 when adding in my commute.
Bulls$&t. I don't think a Software Engineer could even handle a helpdesk job without quitting within the first couple of days. I've been shadowing recently with a developer because I'm trying to get an Engineer 1 job, I've never been a part of anything so easy and relaxed in my life. Then I know they're getting paid 6 figures, live 5 minutes from work, have great full benefits, come and go whenever they want. They have all the workers rights everyone else doesn't have!
Most software engineers are not superstars, they're just trying to flex their privilege while bouncing around companies.
I don't think this is all engineers of course. There are brilliant engineers who deserve every penny and more, but there's a huge epidemic of techbros and people coming in straight out of boot camps who demand 6 figures and to work on large projects like experienced people.

This is an argument I've been repeatedly using here.
The amount of people on Facebook, the amount of people in USA who receive their sole amount of news from Facebook (68%) is crazy! Stifling any dissent against states, primarily dissent against USA and its own system and allies I'm willing to bet.
What happened is corporations ate all of those temp jobs and put themselves in between as a middleman to eat 50%+ of your salary for essentially being a job finding company, making it even cheaper and easier for the company hiring. You also have multiple lines of management. I see an abundance of software engineer contractor jobs for $17/hr in Seattle.
If these paid good, they'd be great. but they aren't paid good anymore.
Social Media will be used to narrow the Overton Window and pull even more rights away and drive society into even further consumerist passivity. They're a private governmet, just like most large corporations now.
This honestly seems to be an issue with what my personal opinions are about certain topics. I do not "flame bait", I am serious in my positions and don't seek any type of nefarious response. I don't see how pointing out that nobody bats an eye when Google does what China does is "flamebait", it's just an observation. Other links were benign in nature or then sourced as factual right below 'mod' comments.
Can you point me to the requests to stop? I've seen exactly one, a long time ago. I'm not personally attacking people, and I do contribute here with a positive upvote score. I don't see the issue.
Maybe if the workers had a say instead of only unlimited desire for large sums of capital and power having a say, Google would be in a more trustworthy, ethical, & moral place.
