True, but while tiktok is international and serve the content from servers not located in China. The Chinese version is different both in terms of content (you won't find the same "influencer") and in term of setup (servers in China with further settings to comply to stricter Chinese regulations)

I don't think it has been ignored in the west, but at the same time we need to be honest to say that it has never been tackled properly either

And limiting the problem to only US is pretty much denying that HR violation is present also elsewhere in the west (look at the condition of the migrant in Europe as example)

Yes if you declare you're making less money by leveraging on an international structure that helps you to divert profits to another country where taxation is lower.

There are plenty case in Italy and France about both companies and individual that have been charged for tax avoidance

Oh yes one case that rule them all. I don't think this is how science works and being bald is not equivalent to being ugly.

And to give you another example both Sergey Brin and Larry Page are definitely not good looking yet they've enough money to change their appearance.

Well, then we can but also plastic surgery on the mix if that matter.

I thought it was implicit that we're talking about natural beauty without make up perhaps.

And no, beauty does not depends the clothes you wear for example (makeup, yes I second that if is very thick can change the way a person look)

Actually not really, I mean if you're ugly and rich you're just ugly with money. You may get benefits just because you've money. But if you don't show off then there's no way to influence your "perception of beauty"

Beauty has more to do with culture (what do we consider good looking and what not) but there's also an objective beauty that has to do with body proportion for example

As I've said in many European countries both avoidance and evasion are illegal and my reply was about that since the OP implied that avoidance is a good thing while evasion is not. I let you read the other replies in this thread for the link that prove the charges to Google in Europe as I'm tired to post it.

P.S. Europe is not one country as is US and we don't have a federal state. Again, as I've stated many times, many European countries had this rules way before they were standardized at European level as testified by the fines that Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook had got in some European countries for tax avoidance.

Hope this clarifies and thanks for your link I gonna study that.

I posted link below as reply to another comment. They were evading taxes and was charged in Italy and France and even on Ireland.

And no, it was not technically legal because many European countries do not distinguish between avoidance and evasion. There's no such a thing and is evasion (no matter how smartly you do that).

There's no such a tax avoidance rule that is allowed and tax evasion is not. Also avoid and evade are similar term.

Avoid > keep away from or stop oneself from doing

Evade > escape or avoid (someone or something), especially by guile or trickery.

This is the reason why many US tech companies got fined in Europe (Apple and Google are one of them)

P.S. can someone explain why I get down votes for something factual? This forum is ridiculous at times

The same problem you're referring to is also true for news regarding China. Have you ever thought about it?

I've traveled for an extended time in both US and China and as you say you hardly get shot on a trip in California you also will not get arrested just for holding a foreign passport in Shanghai

As far I'm concerned I felt much safer in China for many reason that I'm not here to explain.

To be honest, as European I think China and US are pretty similar in many ways (propaganda, law enforcement etc).

So said each country has their own problem but if anybody focus more on resolving their internal problem before teaching everybody how to live would be better.

In this forum is very hard to discuss anything serious that doesn't follow the prevalent opinion that you get down votes without reason.

pre 1975 China was pretty different and thinking that it will go back to that state is pretty arrogant.

Now, compared to then, China has a huge internal market thanks to the rising of the middle class that could take the clash of a potential export collapse by leveraging their internal market.

So said, whenever there's somebody exporting there's another one importing. Perhaps we should ask ourselves where are we going to get the goods that now are produced largely in China.

Going fast is not the only metric to use to hire someone. To use your example, you might be a great driver that can go 60mph on the snow but you drive the same way when there's traffic on the street, you're basically unaware of the problems you can cause.

This is true in the same way on engineering. Too many kids deploy feature and release it in production without testing or without accounting edge cases that at scale cause massive problem to the user base. While this could not be a problem in a startup it's a big issue in traditional corporation and where error are not an option (you wouldn't consider giving the software of a medical device to somehow who has demonstrates skills but don't know what issues may cause)

Like an African proverb says: If you want go fast, go alone. If you want go far go together

I think that's a good comparison. Indeed while in China living condition of the middle class are good and comparable to what you can get in the west, and the low income class still have a fair access to basic needs (housing, water, toilet) this not exactly the same in India.

So if the open market would be the only reason of the progress we should've seen something similar in the two countries.

The only similarity that they both share is a growing disparity between high income class and low income class

Also Chinese policy is more towards open trade than open market. I feel that complicated topic such as progress can't be condensed into one action that can deliver the expected results. In fact is always a combination of policy that bring the desired effect
