I kind of agree with the article, but on the other hand, I don't think I would I have ever donated without their aggressive campaign... Or I maybe would have once and then forgot about it. When I receive their email I'm like, "oh yeah! I should donate, totally forgot in a long time."

That's the whole point: if they did, it was NOT willingly: they have the intellectual property stored in a completely separate folder, which should not be uploaded to Github.
That would hurt the poors while the wealthy would still be able to buy loads of stuff. Maybe a tax that would become bigger the more you buy? Like, the more gas or electricity you consume, the more expensive it gets per unit? But it would be very hard to implement I guess..

Well Germany is replacimg part of nuclear energy with natural gas plants so it is a really important debate indeed.
They do that because they need money. Why can't they just ask for money? Can't we just have a healthier business model: you want a good product that cost money to develop, just pay for it?
It could be a freemium model: users paying for premium features (Sync, VPN, ...) support the company, for example.
From the article, they say that they are Going Carbon Negative. But they are not there yet (because it is technically not feasible yet). A more accurate title would be: "DuckDuckGo Is Going Carbon Negative"

Same goes with, say, hydropower. If a dam breaks and flood a region, the tax payers will pay. Are you against hydrolic dams ?
I obviously not saying that we should phase out dams, what I am saying is, nuclear power is one of the safest energy we have, funnily enough[0].

No energy is green. Not a single energy source does not require some mining / oil extracting at some point. We have to choose the solution which impact as little as possible the environment on global scale.
I think that is just your opinion, and not objective truth. I am a happy debian user, currently forced to use macOS at my current company, and can't say I have a great time developping on a mac. As a web developper, Linux is great: native docker, native linux terminal experience...
I however think this is a personnal opinoin, and I won't argue that Linux is better that macOS. If I has been a macOS user from the start I would have maybe been equally unhappy to be forced to use Linux.
What i'm trying to say is, we are all different people with different tastes and priorities, and I don't think we can objectivly say that one OS is better (or "sucks the least").
