I feel like a lot of his takes -- like c89 being the best -- may be true in the context of the kind of complex desktop applications he seems to develop, but not universally applicable.
Still, he gives a lot of good advice and fundamental engineering rules.
As a junior, this scares me. I don't think I'll be out of a job soon, but certainly the job market will change drastically and the times where SWEs are paid like doctors and lawyers will end?
I found even these simple USB Switchers to be quite expensive, and sometimes they require drivers that don't work on Linux. I quickly sketched a simple circuit board with USB hubs and a switch and ordered them assembled (!) from one of those DIY-fabs (JLCPCB or PCBWay). They cost 25€ for 5 pcs, each with one 2-to-1 switch. I don't have any experience in circuit design and didn't have to solder anything, and they work perfectly.
These would go pretty well with this software, maybe I'll give it a try.
UX is probably a matter of habit, I for one find the chesscom UI unintuitive and I can never find what I'm looking for, but Lichess certainly also has its problems.
The free and (to me) intuitive analysis tools on Lichess are the killer feature for me.
How does Elon trying to buy Twitter fit into this? Completely reworking Twitter with these ideas seems to be harder than just creating a new thing, so I doubt that was the goal?
The demo feels like a dream. You try to move towards things, but they transform and you can not reach them. You can also not go back, the place you came from totally changed. Suddenly, you're somewhere else completely.
His "straight line missions" on YouTube are really entertaining. The concept (crossing some piece of land in a completely straight line) is simple, but leads to quite some interesting challenges in practice. His brillant story-telling makes the videos very compelling.
