That is totally unfounded. Their book of business is huge. You think Google is paying 32B of shareholder dollars because of a foreign intelligence agency? Keep your conspiracism to yourself.
OK, but I think you missed the point of the question above. The point was whether a court can compel people to explain a secret code, and whether there should be a different standard, if that code involves the computer or not

Many different organizational cultures within the massive mothership org. Yet still remarkable that this famously top-down controlling and highly organized company doesn’t address some of these blatant and persistent shortcomings.
The duality of Apple is rather remarkable. They are among the most brilliant organizations of the modern world, and simultaneously one of the most incompetent (speaking both of this event and other times working with Apple teams).
Also, it's worth noting that the Signal team didn't work on WhatsApp. It was WhatsApp that chose to integrate the Signal protocol, which Open Whisper Systems/The Signal Foundation open-sourced their protocol.
