- A few Senior Full-stack or Backend Engineers across our 3 product engineering teams. We highly value product-mindset, experience building production web apps for real users, and ability to coach and support more junior engineers.
- A technically hands-on Engineering Manager. Ideally, you have at least a year or two of experience leading people and being accountable for a team's execution, roadmap, and performance. You would be the fourth "line manager" on our team, and so there's ample opportunity to grab org-wide initiatives that are interesting and impactful.

This is my experience. Path in the door for every job I've had since I finished undergrad in the mid-aughts:
- 1st job .. I answered a craigslist ad.
- 2nd .. HN who's hiring post.
- 3rd .. reached out to an engineer on the team on linkedin.
- 4th .. referral from ex-coworker's partner.
- 5th .. browsed the website of the VC firm that's funded a few of my previous companies, and I reached out to the CEO on linkedin.

This is my exact issue with lightroom. I have 9 yrs of edit history, and workflows setup + a mobile app that seamlessly imports everything from my phone into my main catalog alongside my "big camera" shots. If there was a competitor that migrated all of this cleanly, I'd be happy to modify my workflows to break out of the lock in.
Though of course the pretty pictures really help with increasing the appetite from the public for spending on projects like this.. and capturing people's imaginations is a necessary part of the long game.
I am! Thank you. It's been almost 15 yrs .. I have a few scars from the chest tubes as a reminder. My lung capacity is normal. Every so often I get some numbness on that side when it's storming outside. In the couple years following, I did go through some hypochondria, thinking I had any number of related and unrelated issues. I've been advised not to scuba or go climbing Mt. Everest (ha!), though I do wonder if and when the other side could strike.
This happened to me in college. Driving home from the movies, chest started to hurt on inhale .. I decided to "sleep it off", which obviously didn't work. Went to the ER in the morning. Got the chest tube and spent about a week seeing if it would heal naturally, then they removed the offending part of my lung, and did a mechanical pleurodesis (a procedure that sticks your lung to the chest wall so it can't collapse). All-in, was over two weeks in the hospital, and a good bit of recovery after.

Not necessarily. The market will ultimately dictate what a landlord can charge for rent .. if that includes their cost of repairs + taxes, good for them. It's by no means a guarantee, and landlords can go through periods of being cash-flow negative on a property.
It's a common American (but maybe elsewhere too?) attitude to feel something is being taken from you when another person is gaining -- in this case, it's you moving efficiently through traffic while they stand still. Most people will just rage inside their car, but there is definitely a subset of those that think they have a right to harm you over it.
I've been asking this positive/negative in the form of "What keeps you at $COMPANY?" and "What did you find out isn't so great about $COMPANY after 3 months you wish you would've known before you started?"
Was in Venice summer 2017, and having never been prior, my wife and I were surprised at how empty it was after 5pm. How could this be? It was wall-to-wall people all day -- many in tours that would sometimes just stop in the middle of a narrow corridor. We realized what this and all the other articles about Venice tourism describe -- that most tourists only come for the day.
The evenings and nights there were the best part of the day -- not only because the temp dropped, and the light was beautiful -- but because it became an entire different city without the droves of people. It became trivial to sit down at random restaurants and find quiet.
It's a good start they're going to start charging for entry to the island for the sake of the residents and preserving the city. Though not sure they need all this infra for tracking within the island itself to accomplish their goals.
