Yeah, Opera comes in at a whopping 1.74% browser share. They are a competitor to Mozilla in the same way that the Zune was a competitor to the iPod. Not really a competition.

None of these things are obscure. At all. It was an immediate fail to begin with an explanation of indexing as pointer arithmetic. This is known to any C or C++ programmer beyond an absolute beginner level.

What a ridiculously naive comment. First, why should tesla take up this cause? They're trying to run a bush was, it makes no sense to do/spend any more tha. They have to. Second, you obviously do not understand the practicalities involved in passing a piece of legislation. If it doesn't pass then you gain nothing. Better to fight a battle you can win.

As someone who has been in this situation, I have to disagree with you. There is simply no replacement for being able speak in person at a moment's notice. Working remotely changes the dynamic of communication entirely. What if I just want to grab a conference room and whiteboard some ideas? Email and IM's are a lackluster alternative. I would never recommend hiring a junior to work remotely.

Based upon your self description, no, I would not. You sound to me like a beginner-intermediate level programmer who loves what he is doing, but is under the impression that cool new languages and frameworks are the most exciting thing he can experience. They are not. Note that this is still my impression even after reading your "I'm a fast learner..." paragraph.

You may very well be highly gifted, but how can I know that? Nowhere in your description do you discuss what sort of problems you have solved or and what sort of problems you would like to solve. Solving problems is #1. What language/framework/API you use to do it should flow naturally from the problem domain.

I don't care if you know C/C#/Ruby/whatever. Sure, knowing the technology stack that we are using (or plan to use) is a big bonus, but it is not up there at the top of my list of hiring criteria. I want to know if you can solve problems. I want to know how you think. Any engineer worth their salt can learn the latest language or framework, that doesn't interest me. What does interest me is know that, if we have a difficult problem to solve, I am going to be able to get you next to a whiteboard to help me figure it out.

Don't take this as an insult; everyone starts somewhere. This stage is a natural progression in your development as an engineer. I was there once, as was everyone else. However, per your own description, you sound like a glue programmer to me, not an engineer. I want to know if I can rely on you to solve hard problems, regardless of whether the best language for the job is C or JavaScript.

Well, that is exactly the reason I would not hire you as-is. That is the impression I had initially and that sentence only reinforces that impression, regardless of your statement in the "I am a fast learner..." paragraph.

No one would be writing JavaScript without technically minded people who write the interpreter. Sure, these languages are great and are more approachable to novices, but the systems guys aren't going anywhere. Anyone writing high level glue code does so on the backs of people who make it possible to do so.

While I'm not completely unsympathetic, that's what you get for relying too heavily in a third party for your core business needs. Honestly, if google alerts was accounting for 35%-45% of your content as you say, you're doing it wrong. Time to start doing your own legwork.

I will never understand why seemingly every web based product wants me to share everything I do with "friends", where "friend" is defined as "random people you may have met once or went to high school with".

I don't care what movies you watch. At all. I (used to) use Netflix (when they had new releases) for watching movies and shows, not for catching up with people I couldn't care less about.

BS. I was on at midnight release night. No one could play reliably. It was hit or miss for a week after that. Besides, the game itself was ruined by the AH and the RMAH, regardless of whether or not the servers were holding up.

Of course you can; the decision to use an "online always" DRM scheme is made at the top. It's bullshit, the same garbage blizzard used with DIII. It makes no sense for games that can be played single player. Online should be an option, not a prerequisite.

A loop counter named "i" is a problem for you? Really? I would hate to see every loop counter named "index". It's completely unnecessary and just adds noise to your code. "i" is not going to confuse anyone, not for one moment. Making that name longer just means you have to type more characters and, honestly, looks ametuerish.
