I've yet to see a useful master's degree. Especially in the US and in STEM it seems like master's has just been a gate to the next thing.
I have a master's and one of the biggest reasons behind my education was the opportunity in the US after the master's. Sole benefit of it has been the OPT (~3 years work visa). I learned small things here and there during my education but as an SWE I don't use them at all and I forgot the rest of my classes. I wrote a thesis but it was nowhere near a PhD level research.
Additionally higher entry level areas such as ML and AI often require PhD so getting a master's is not getting your foot in the door.
I am a non-native English speaker. “Even I” would come to my mind first and then that.
For some reason it means “I also” in Indian English and it sounds weird to non Indian dialect.
Like “Even I don’t understand this” sounds obnoxious to me because in my mind it means “Even I, an almighty being, don’t understand this, who are you to think you can understand it” but it means “I also don’t understand” in Indian English.
According to google “Even” as adverb: used to emphasize something surprising or extreme. So I assume what I think at first is what native English speakers also think.
I hear this daily and I know what it meant to mean now, I had a friend who did not know this and thought her Indian colleague was talking down to her.
While I get what you mean, data has the profile links too. Matching the data to real facebook profiles would be near? impossible if the source was not Facebook.
This idea assumes that one I am familiar with grep and vim or nano and two that I was using my terminal already. Which can be true or wrong. But, the discussion is not about whats the best way for searching for text in a file set. I am just talking about whats the use case in which I prefer VSCode over IntelliJ.
Sometimes I just want to read code with highlighting. I want to open the project and search for some text in all the files.
I don't want to wait for IntelliJ to take 30 seconds to open.
This is a cool project. As a user entering information in a pdf file with hundreds of input boxes stresses me. Hiding the document until after I enter all the information makes it easier to file tax.
But it would not be feasible to use this for most of the people. Tax is often vastly complex and it ignores all those parts. I don't have any capital gain, any properties or any uncommon income such as from rent but even for me this would not work because I get 1099-INT forms from bank (for 1.25$) and there is only W2 option under income.
I am also a nonresident so I need to use 1040NR another block there but I am not even talking about that.
I am a green card applicant basically waiting to become a US citizen in the next 5 - 10 years. Comments are mostly blaming the person for not renouncing it but is renouncing really necessary?
If I end up going back to the country I was born in and leave the US what benefit do I have as a US citizen? This has been a scary scenario for a long time for me and I don't think I would be able to pay tax to the US with my income in that country.
If I basically stop being a citizen of the US by moving to another country why do I need to continue paying for it?
Is there any other country that does this?
Edit: This post made me finally read about this scenario. FEIE [1] exclusion for about $105,000 as of 2020. Is a relief because I can never earn that amount with the exchange rate in my country of birth.
I've read only the The Mythical Man-Month from this list. It is amazing how the project management really did not change much. Similar ideas (sometimes same) to similar problems.
I would recommend watching this talk [0] from Kevlin Henney to anyone who likes that book.
I have been a hackintosh user for the last 3-4 years. I was shocked when I had problems with the GTX1060 I bought. I am using High Sierra because of this.
IIRC AMD hardware was the one without support for a long time. It is weird how it changed all of a sudden.
I am definitely amazed and grateful like others by the work involved in writing this book. The attention to detail is visible from the first parts of the README. Clear explanations for everything.
I am also a sucker for clean written Makefiles. I have "Managing Projects with GNU Make" book that I keep in my to-read list (shamefully putting reading it off).

There are tools that can measure some sensor temp and control the fan speed according to that on Mac. I was using it on my older MacBook Pro and the fan usage was relatively better than when it was set to auto.

That is probably true for Canadians. It is definitely easier, faster, and more accessible for a Canadian to immigrate to the US. Fewer reasons can be enough.
For immigrants from other countries even though good jobs is one of the priorities it does not always justify immigrating. There are often other additional factors that push people to immigrate.
