First off FreeBSD FTW. I use it everywhere over Linux now for the first time in 25 years and couldn’t be happier. My only wish is that BSD had a better non-CoW file system. Databases and Blockchains are already CoW so it does irk me slightly to use zfs for them. That being said, I’ve never had a problem because of it.
This happened to me! I flew to jacksonville FL, and they gave me a car. upon return they were all freaking out because the car was reported stolen. I was like wtf, here’s the keys, and got to my plane. I would have been pissed if I was arrested.
Yes this is a wrapper and it persisted iptables well. But for anyone that says shorewall is just a wrapper, probably just skimmed a manual and don’t understand the real genius here.
what shorewall really did was make iptables feel like a polished usable firewall. iptables on its own is shit to work with. shorewall made it easy to use in so many cases.
congrats on your retirement and thanks for a great tool that I used for many years.
Not surprised. This guy invested in a company I founded. I had a friend call me and basically say “this dude is horrible, don’t let him invest”. I could write a book about how that investment ended up working out for me personally.
anyone know if it will support pre-auth .. I own a nightclub and this would be clutch. I saw they have a preauth endpoint. But, can I preauth for $1 and capture $100
Andy was a very close friend and the best coworker that I’ve ever had. I recently did a personal reference for him and he was looking to work out here on the east coast. I’m crushed that I just found this out on HN through a friend. Andy was like a magnet. One of those people that you generally wanted to be around. In my eyes he was the perfect mixture of skill, hilarity, and crudeness. I tell stories almost every day of things we’ve done at work and out of work. We drank a lot of beer, did a lot of engineering, and pulled a lot of stunts. At the end of the day he proved to a lot of people you can engineer, sell, and be an insane rebel when it comes to the work environment. This is a life taken way too soon. I’ll miss you andy. -sean
