I recently went through a large video editing project on Ubuntu. Really wanted to use DaVinci resolve but it had multiple hard crashes and just wouldn’t open for some reason, doesn’t seem like they support Linux as well as Mac and windows.
I ended up using Blender, and while it’s powerful and super useful to be able to link scenes from other files, one huge missing feature is support for videos of varying frame rates. If your videos don’t match, the audio will be either much longer or much shorter than the video clips.
Had a few hard crashes too and lots of bugs, but definitely usable.
Exploring a topic and then asking for specific book recommendations, getting it to argue both sides of an issue to see weak points, giving quizzes on topics. Also love using it to keep asking for practical examples of abstract ideas.
Unrelated modules often superficially look like each other at a point in time, I think that’s what the parent is referring to. An inexperienced developer will see this and think “I need to remove this duplication”. But then as the modules diverge from each other over time you end up with a giant complex interface that would be better off as 2 separate modules.
So deduplicating unnecessarily compresses the code without adding anything to code quality.
It’s a nice computer but calling it “repairable” is a farce, and System76’s customer support is unfortunately woefully inadequate.
I have one of these and spilled a drink on my keyboard, getting it replaced was $300 of parts and labor, but the worst thing was it took almost 2 months pressuring their support reps to actually complete the process and they would frequently just not respond to messages, or ignore information I provided or clarified.
Pop_OS! is really nice to be fair. I’ve also had issues with build quality. My Gazelle’s screen stopped working when the computer ran out of power and had a bent wire when I opened it up. Again they wanted hundreds of dollars to fix it, even though it was clearly a manufacturing defect. When they sent the computer back the chassis was cracked.
It’s also why cults are so seductive to so many, turning over control and decision making does wonders for peace of mind, until the false basis for that confidence gets exposed.
In my comment I said there’s a chance it’s just a bug. But there’s nothing wrong with speculating from past data, and throttling certain sites would fit the pattern of past behavior.

He banned journalists who reported on it, banned links to Mastodon, Substack, and Threads, changed the algorithm to boost his own content, slapped a warning label on NPR implying it was government funded and no more independent than the Global Times or Russia Today.
It’s one of the fastest growing apps in history and already a significant percentage of Twitter’s total user base. It’s surged past Mastodon in total user count. I hope ActivityPub becomes the standard, but pretending like Threads isn’t a massive hit ignores reality.
