Words are just letters, the semantics come from usage. They don't come from the dictionary. Just like AI is trained on input, so are humans. They can be trained to have different semantic meaning in their head for whatever word you want, as long as their inputs are flooded with that usage of the word.
You can continuously transform a liberal democracy into an authoritarian state, while in every point in the process people will still call it liberal democracy. It's all about the internal semantics in people's heads.
Their motivation is to obviously control the public narrative. That's hard to do when facts contradicting the narrative spread. So you call the dissent misinformation, you pump propaganda which crates distrust of non mainstream media. You also create such articles calling for even more control of the discourse.
The true misinformation is miss-information: the information mainstream media intentionally misses.

Dota also has many mechanics around where you're facing, getting damage reduction from certain angles, or even getting stunned when facing towards someone. If it was instant these things won't work.
If they made it in Dota that would be bad. All chat is usually to convince the other team to keep pausing when your teammates disconnected. It's not really toxic, it's team chat that's toxic.
In fact, I've had games won by the enemy flaming his teammates in all chat, which made my team realize it's just as bad on the other side. Getting pissed by the enemy is usually more motivating to win than getting pissed by your teammates.
