The most basic reason is that people honestly do not believe “antifa” (convenient way to ascribe organization where there is very little, but ok) violence is an existential threat to the US. Violence over racial justice has happened before and it will happen again. And of course, people will try to use it as an excuse to delegitimize real grievances. I don’t think this country has ever seen a president whip his 74M person base into a frenzy over a completely false narrative, with the specific purpose of overthrowing democracy. A huge chunk of people losing faith in democracy will lead us down a scary path, if we’ve learned anything from history.
Try to ram this through your thick skull: The US president organized his loyalists at the foot of the capitol and then had his henchman shout "LET'S HAVE TRIAL BY COMBAT" while congress was about to confirm his political enemy. What did you want to compare that to? Some loons burning down their local pizza hut?
How much more brazen can you be? Turn on the goddamn news today. Show me a list of democratic congressmen who voted against certification in 2016. Show me when Obama pressured his VP to toss electors. Show me a barrage of completely bullshit lawsuits. Show a phone call from the incumbent asking to miraculously find votes.
