Using the phrase "contagion fears" during a pandemic seems misguided.
It's not misguided, but it is distracting.
Many news headlines are using it.
It'd be interesting to check if it's a normal wording or mass psychology or mass psychology gone wrong where they think they are being subtle or A/B testing that is working.

It's normal wording in financial market discourse. You can look up coverage of Archegos, Lehmann/08 financial crisis, 2015 Chinese market crash etc for other situations where it was used heavily to describe either events of the time or highlight possible outcomes.
