I would say take statistic's classes and read some econ books on the side. Also from my personal experience I found micro to be much more engaging and applicable. This is all my personal opinion of course.
Build the 'new" Facebook for a 50% equity stake and no cash. Also the "new" facebooks strategy was to get into all of the Greek scenes and use them as a way to spread. I think they literally watched The Social Network and for verbatim copied the growth strategy but tried to pivot it a little. They also wanted me to sign a non-disclosure because they thought the were on to something. :P
I think the rule of thumb is to require as little downloads as possible. Hassle Free = Success. Also responses to your question will likely be a poor indicator to your programs own success since there are various factors and those factors make it very difficult to quantify.
I believe people use corporate shells all the time for things similar to what you are describing. However don't take my word on that But you will still need to pay corporate taxes here in America. Good Luck!
I would say find a way to integrate with with large social networks. Facebook and LinkedIn both have API's you might be able to use to help regain traction and maintain certain aspects of your site. Like the idea and its potential after looking at your site. But the name is strange. I cant even tell if I am saying it right.. Might want to work on that also. But I would would keep going with it or open source it... Only my opinion.
I would look into LLC's based on what your describing. Maybe even an LLP. However I have a slight suspicion if your from a country that it is hard to set up the accounts you described you will likely expose yourself to a lot of liabilities and legal problems in your country. Also I think you will also cause a serious tax headache on your part.
Maybe look and see if there are companies in the US that provide a "corporate shell" and take care of taxes, etc and then pay you as a contractor... Only an idea. Not even sure if this could work or is even legal.
Medical device research at my school (university of utah) is huge business. Every year research at our school is commercialized and it starts 10's of new businesses and generates billions in revenue. In fact a little know secret is that the University of Utah is second to only MIT in research commercialized. We also do it with about the 1/10th of the budget! So look for funding from a technology commercialization office if you want to do something like that. http://www.tco.utah.edu/
An interesting idea. So it would be like secondmarke meets kickstarter? But unfortunately these "issues" do outweigh in my opinion any value. Like Diolpah posted you have accredited investor issues and you also have a huge issue with how many people can invest in a company and still remain private. I believe facebook is facing hurdles with this right now.
ROFL.. Did not bother to read url or any of the comments until I had finished the story. I was gettinginto the article very seriously and copied a few things to google until I realized what it was. HAHAHA
