The machine also prints a paper tally that goes with it to verify. We used sealed bags so they can’t be messed with in transit. They tabulate the results and compare it to the total from the tape. Personally, I wish there was a hash of the results that would make it simple to say “yep, that’s the same” but practically that’s not necessary.
A second copy of the receipt goes back separately with the paper ballots. Same sealing and chain of custody handoffs.
I like the electronic ballot marking device. I can understand the argument that they’re not worth the cost, though.
Plenty. Most recent was a volleyball rotation generator so I could hand out customized rotation sheets to every player. When I make a change, I can generate all new sheets by updating names & positions.

I don't find our level of racism any different than when I travel elsewhere in the US. There are bigoted people everywhere, but most people around here just want to raise a family and hang out with their neighbors, whatever color they are.

Our Ruby talent pool lost some talent with the Google acquisition and subsequent moving of a local company, but we're back up to 40 at our Ruby group meetings twice a month. We have the Ruby Midwest conference and other developer conferences. Lots of opportunities to meet and hack with other developers.

I've considered getting either my MBA or my CPA, but didn't find the return on investment to be worth it.

I do something similar when I'm pairing, but we just sit on opposite sides of a conference room table. The offset is key so you're not constantly leaning over to see the other person.
