I can't necessarily answer the boring part but, if you mean hard in a social sense, it's because everyone is undergoing physical changes that they don't know how to handle. Now, if you mean hard in a scholastic sense, get use to it because it's only going to get harder.
I'm shocked that Kaku even accepted that bet. That's the easiest no ever. Even if you assume that string theory/a unified theory gets completely worked out and a consensus is reached by 2020, the nobel does not give out awards without experimental evidence. Both of those things happening before 2020 was never going to happen.
There are a few different types of these microbes.
Often you can find them hanging out in old mine waste water or inside where ever mineral exposures are. Several versions eat iron sulfide minerals to function, others eat metallic compounds in waste water. Mining companies are looking at using these microbes to help break down acid rock drainage, the harmful acids generated by sulfide minerals exposed to air.
One species of the microbes can collect precious metals inside its self as a side effect, releasing them when they die as perfect metallic orbs.

Sadly so many universities are bloated with administrators. Part of the reason the costs are so high. Then they hire adjunct professors who make about as much as a waiter at a good restaurant does. I don't know if TU uses adjuncts but most college's do and this includes Ivy League schools. So the money in general is not going to faculty (that is the full time ones) but the administrators. At some point they are going to have to get rid of the administrative bloat and bring costs down. They are not going to do this willingly. But I think college has reached a price point that is too high that the public is questioning if it is worth the cost.
I update the router about once a month, just to ensure all the relevant packages are kept current with upstream. So far the only breakages have been in kernel incompatibilities with the ipt-netflow module, but I think that’s only happened once so far - any Arch updates to shorewall, dnsmasq, etc. have been stable.

Why is MCAS needed? If the MAX is so similar to old 737’s and no additional training is needed, then why the MCAS? The most relevant question is “is the MAX aerodynamically stable?” If it is, why do we need the MCAS? That needs to be investigated.
If plane at a low altitude at full power is stalling, just lower the nose. That is pilot training 101. Why need a system like MCAS to help. The pilot should be able to disengage the autopilot and take control of the airplane. This should be simple.
My suspicion is that there is an inherent, more fundamental problem with the MAX. Before Boeing rushes a software fix, idependendent entities “(remember we can no longer assume the FAA is independent based on what transpired over the last few days) need to investigate and makes sure the plane is safe.
I for one will not fly the MAX regardless of what the FAA and Boeing say. Their reputation for prudence and safety is gone.

Couldn’t you just hook up a light sensor, temperature sensor, etc and take the last few decimal places of the reading for a random number? You could have multiple and combine the numbers to create larger random numbers. For instance, you have a temperature sensor that reads 72.5946023544 F. This number is always varying, because the temperature in the room isn’t constant. You take the last 4 decimal places, 3544, and there’s your random number. I realize you couldn’t read a temperature sensor to that many decimals, but its just an example. It is never going to create a predictable pattern because its based on something unpredictable.
Why not set the A record for the external DNS server to something like 1.1.1.1 and the internal DNS server has the correct IP address (or a view on the same DNS Server). This way you won’t leak internal IP addresses to the Internet.
