Just released Swiftide 0.31 A Rust library for building LLM applications. From performing a simple prompt completion, to building fast, streaming indexing and querying pipelines, to building agents that can use tools and call other agents.
The release is absolutely packed:

A major new staple is a straight-forward way for human-in-the-loop interaction. Human-in-the-loop pattern is a common solution for GenAI agents to provide them with feedback and some measure of safety.
Additionally there's a host of new features, improvements, and fixes. You can find the project on [github](https://github.com/bosun-ai/swiftide).
I've worked with C++ in the past, it's subject to taste. I like how Rust's rigidness empowers rapid change _without_ breaking things.
Besides, the ML ecosystem is also very mature. llama.cpp has native bindings (which Swiftide supports), onnx bindings, ndarray (numpy in Rust) works great, Candle, lots of processing utilities. Additionally, many languages are rewriting parts in Rust, more often than not, these are available in Rust as well.
Core maintainer of Swiftide here. That's a fair comment! Additionially, it's interesting to note that almost all the time is spend in FastEmbed / onxx in the Swiftide benchmark. A more involved follow up with chunking and transformation could be very interesting, and anecdotally shows far bigger differences. We did not have the time yet to fully dive into this.
Personally, I just love code being fast, and Rust is incredible to work with. Exceptions granted, I'm more productive with Rust than any other language. And it's fun.
Excited to announce that Swiftide, a Rust library for building RAG applications, can now do hybrid search with Qdrant, supports filters in search, load parquet files for indexing (i.e. from HuggingFace) and is a lot faster.

I've had the XPS13 for 1,5 years now, came from 10 years Mac, running Linux for the past 4 years or so. Generally I'm very happy with the laptop, build quality is great, linux support is spot on, even slack works decently on Linux these days.
I did get the 4k screen, which is amazing with the touch disabled. Lots of room if you have great eyes.
Couple downsides however:
* They must have been drunk when they decided where the camera should go
* Huge screen wobble after 6 months, maybe the hinges are just loose and need to be tightened.
* Regular charging port doesn't work anymore. USB-C everywhere however.
I'm happy about the laptop, there's faults but I like it a lot more than my previous three
MBPs. The X1 carbon looks like an amazing follow up, closely following that.
Also, the new XPS has a virtual longer key travel by using magnets, as a mech keyboard fan, how cool is that?
Impressive! It works really well. Has anyone set it up with ctrlp in vim? I have `rg %s --files --color=never`, which works, but shows an empty white line at the prompt, so I need to use a cursor to jump to the desired file.
I currently have it hooked up into Ansible, which generate a cert automatically for each domain we load balance (in Haproxy). It works very well, although wildcards would be much nicer.
From a culture where drugs aren't very much taboo (Dutch), I'm very interested in the (scientific) positive effects of hallucinogens. There seems to be more and more research going on in this, for many taboo, field with very interesting observations. What sets me off hard on this article is that the writer hallucinated from hash. I suppose anyone can have an off-the-charts response, but I've never seen anyone hallucinate from it. It's also rather striking how much of a 'hero' story this is. Started as a 'typical busy guy', 'struck by lightning', 'fear of death', 'start of epic quest', 'triumphed by wonder potion'. It's all so perfect.
Maybe I'm just paranoid, and I applaud any (including this) discussion of taboos, but I can't help but feeling skeptic about the genuinity of this article.
There are some parties / persons in Dutch politics who refrain from healthy discussions and just money grab with popular and sometimes hate inducing statements. It so happens that they disregard any privacy, as well. I call them douches, and I'm very happy and confident to do so.
This statement was made early December. And I think it does deserve some nuance:
Minister Steur (Security and Justice) this monday said, representing the second chamber, that "laws that prohibit encryption are not desirable at this time". That doesn't retract their early statement, but I think it's an important nuance. Arguably, it might also just be political play to get some douchebag rightwing parties over the line. Similarly, in december, a law was passed that allows authorities to hack 'criminals' without a warrant. In many countries, (liberty) activists are criminals too.
That said, I still appreciate where things are going. Privacy is a very tough political climate and I think it's solid that we (the Dutch) take this standpoint. Baby steps.
Oh amazon please get your naming right. Why does every service have to be named so utterly confusing? I was expected some kind of cloud NLP library. Would have been cool.
