Seems like resh (https://github.com/curusarn/resh) plus a directory tab and unlike resh it isn't free. I like the directory history, but that isn't a $40/yr value add over resh for me.
When I bought my 2015 Mazda 3, there were already articles on how they had found buttons and the dial superior to touchscreen only. They were quick on that and now have a decade more work going into it.
Every few years since then there has been an article like this that another brand "discovered" the same thing.
The arrs are sweet. Plex serves media. Prowlarr maintains a list of torrent sites to use. Radarr for movies, sonarr for tv, and lidarr for music monitor things and auto download, move, rename, etc., and are tied into prowlarr for where to get them. Some examples, every new Minions movie or every new episode of The Witcher or every new album from IVE you can have auto download once available and get moved to the correct Plex library folder with the correct filename, and you can set up metadata requirements like size, bitrate, etc. for those the downloads. Overseerr has a slick ui for discovering media and requesting downloads; you can have it set up to use plex accounts where you or other users logged in with their plex account can request something, and it reaches out to the correct arr for that to do its thing according to the *arr settings for that media.
What's everything is set up, imagine a Netflix where you can also request something not available and get that added in the time it takes to download in the exact resolution, language, subs, etc., that you want with no more than a search and a click.

Working in government, we're seeing a larger amount of folks leave within a few months of hire. I had never heard of that before COVID.
When I started here years ago and not remote except a one day a month telework option, it took weeks to get involved in a project. Everyone is laid back and wants to give time to acclimate and understand the place and the project first. My PM told me basically, "Hey I hired you for algorithm development, but just look around and see what's needed, what's interesting to you, and from there pick what you want to do."
That might sound awesome, and to me now with experience it is the reason why I stay here. However, as a new employee, it made me super neurotic to not have any sort of direct tasking. It felt like I didn't have work and wasn't being assigned any. I think if I had been remote it would have made things even worse; at the time, one of my saving thoughts was I could be there on time and be seen looking around Confluence or reading to learn about the research topic.
I would definitely be interested to hear how folks onboard freshly hired junior devs onto a project or team, how much direct tasking they give, how much time or how they allow for adapting, etc.
Researcher/Engineer in government here. The project I've been on for the last year has me averaging over a full day a week in meetings.
The PM (who has been in charge of the project for five years now and at the research center 25+) is "non technical", so she likes to have multiple tech roles in each meeting for "backup".
It's exactly the hell you'd expect.
On the plus side (/s), when COVID forced us telework, they put in a policy requiring an email at the end of every of what we did, so I have documented exactly why everything is behind.
To be honest I just googled and clicked the first recent result because I was curious if this was a backtrack or she's just putting it up. It seems like the Axios article is conflating her not blocking it with her supporting it. I don't see any quotes from her saying she supports it.
There is a point in the article her husband is a heavy trader. When I read that, my first thought was unless they ban spouses from trading as well, it seems like that's what will happen since the majority are married.
I work at a Navy research center that's 3000+ employee strong and feeds all of DoD (we're a working capital fund, meaning we take customers to fund ourselves). In four years here, I've worked projects sponsored by Air Force, DHS/CBP, Navy, Marines, and two three letter agencies. There was no general involved in any of them, and I don't know any projects by coworkers that involved acquisition of technology. As for my projects, all except one still still in R&D have transitioned into production systems. All involve OSS to some degree. One was a design for a COTS multi source information fusion system meant to be deployed in the cloud and has all the open source tech there you'd expect, NiFi, Kafka, Spark, etc. My current project is a combination of us (correlation) and two contractors (separately IT and predictive models). Again, it's all the OSS and tech you'd expect to find in a real time analytics/tipping system and CI/CD pipeline/orchestration.
I bring up my experience not to say you're wrong but to show there are other avenues it comes in. There are lots of research labs, and researchers aren't about buying software from contractors.
A lot are grabbed out of college or post military. These agencies and governement research centers want degrees, but they are willing to grow desired skills in-house. The most common new employee is someone hired for their potential, with experience much more highly valued in the private sector.
There are ex-Googlers and such as well, but they're not super common. One guy said he got bored at Google because he was rebasing code all the time so switched over. Not everyone will take the more money for a job where your role can feel meaningless. In comparison, these DOD jobs definitely feel meaningful, almost no matter your role. Feelings inside are very similar to what you hear from military servicemembers about feeling like you're making an important difference. If you don't, it's easy to change positions; it is very desirable to have a load of different skills, and learning/training is not only available but pushed hard. Internal and external classes, paying for degrees and having partnerships with local colleges, externships with large private corporations, internships in other departments are all common. If you like to learn, it is appealing. As a result, there are certainly a lot of very smart people.
Being government, you still have a chunk of the pool who are basically done but hanging on til retirement. I'd say it's past the 15-20 year mark that people really start to phone it in in technical positions. I won't get into this too much, but someone who is not known as top of their field but is close to or has maxed out the pay scale, they're probably not useful anymore. There are a lot of these (everywhere in government).
Are you actually getting one day deliveries in a day? I always got two day deliveries on time before the switch, but so far the vast majority of my one day shipping items are coming late. It's not a big sample size, but 7/9 were or are currently late.

With the Mazda, I don't think anyone bothered to try to go as far as you did with the software because it was so easy to get wifi turned on, connect, and then let your device try short password after password (and at just three lowercase letters, the result came fast).
Given the reet of the work and your first point, it does seem like yours is the smart choice in this case. I was just surprised you didn't tey bruteforcing via ssh at first.

I was surprised to see him give up at having to bruteforce the password for root on ssh. That's how the community got into Mazdas, at least the 2015 I had anyway. The password was simple, jci, presumably because it was designed by Johnson Control Istruments.
You think a company is going to heavily lock down an embedded system they don't expect anyone to try to access, or are they going to make the password easy so that all the techs and engineers can remember it?
There are so many free players in that space (e.g., https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31402095), $40/yr is probably a hard sell.
