One can only hope... My 13 mini's performance, especially for the Camera and Safari seem to have hit new lows with iOS 26. I'm sticking with the mini for its size, but also its weight. So far the Air is the only alternative I think I could switch to, but apparently that's also on Apple's chopping block due to poor sales.
I was able to get a new battery and screen for my 13 mini via AppleCare, but even the new battery won't get me through the day. Recent OS updates also make my camera shooting experience really slow for some reason.
Even with all that, I'm keeping the mini as long as possible because every year brings bigger and heavier iPhones.
When Apple's MobileMe came out I snagged the [email protected] email address, thinking how clever I was. But because filtering tools weren't as good back then I was never able to use it because of the truly massive amount of spam and test emails I'd get.
I saw Phoenix a few weeks ago outside the US. The lead singer tried to crowd surf, but the crowd around/under him were so focused on photographing the moment that he wasn't able to stay up.
The Four Horsemen from his band Aphrodite's Child really shows off his impressive prog-rock chops as well as showcasing a fantastic video of the band's persona (as well as a lot of Ouzo shots): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KCbqhJt16k
Or as @maplecocaine succinctly put in tweet form: "Each day on twitter there is one main character. The goal is to never be it"[0].
There's a LOT to improve about the hate on Twitter. I also think that trolls and griefers who don't have an audience snuff themselves out. If paying can make a dent in that I'm interested.
There's certainly a trope of "...but I can't give up cheese" and as someone who went from vegetarian to vegan: Yeah, cheese is hard to replicate. But also: your body and tastes adapt.
After a few weeks off of dairy our memories of those old textures and mouth feel start to fade and are replaced. Humans don't like changes in patterns, but at the same time are relatively quick to adapt to new ones.
There's real addiction at play with dairy as well [1]. Those young calfs get the dopamine hit to attract them to their mom's milk. For humans, it fuels our addition to dairy, whose importance as a food group was manufactured because it created another revenue stream after post-war food industrialization [2].
These folksy farmers pretend like they're part of rich heritage of humanity - the dairy farmer through the ages supplying people with a healthy and necessary drink. Dairy production is just another demand created in the modern world by marketers and little to do with actual nutrition [1].
The dairy farmers in this article try to portray a peaceful relationship between farmer and cow, yet 99% of dairy in the US is produced in factory farms quite different from idyllic pastures [2]. More like what we're seeing in China with multi-story pig farms [3].
I think economics, environment and consumer behavior could easily wipe out the dairy industry, except that it's an integral part of food/industrial production. You obvs don't have a cheese industry without dairy, but you also don't have a source of male cows for the veal industry, a source of bones and other parts for the myriad other uses like adhesives, filtration (bone char filtration makes sugar white [4]), chemicals, textiles, etc.
I used to fly gas RC helicopters and the joke was that RC helis are collections of small expensive parts desperately trying to get away from each other.
Reading the two complaints, it seems that they basically obtained Discord chat records and tied those usernames to an OGUsers db that was hacked & leaked in April.
Seems like the OGUsers database was the key piece of info, but it was 'a rival criminal hacking forum' that actually got the db and the FBI 'obtained' a copy of it.
This release is more of a "we listened" release than anything else. That's likely why they didn't parade it around with an October event and instead went with a private press review and press release.
Good article this morning from the Verge [1] about how airlines dependent on a monoculture fleet are in a world of hurt because they can't leave the 737 line (too entrenched operationally) but also can't wait forever for Boeing to get its act together.
Cyber retaliation from Iran should be on the mind of anyone in the government thinking of military escalation with them. War-time presidents may get a boost before an election, but public support will quickly turn if hardship comes to US soil via hacks to our power grid or other infrastructure.
WHO has details [1] about the carcinogenic impacts of animal meat consumption. There's nothing of that sort for any plant-based burgers. The arguments in these types of articles seem to ignore what I think are more serious health risks from animal proteins.
And animals don't subsist on air. In terms of 'processed', the types of nutrients fed to factory-farmed animals are terrible, including massive amounts of antibiotics. Cows are regularly fed the cheapest carbs available, including Skittles [2]
