Pandora does a pretty good job of integrating ads into their site. Youtube had some nice ads (one for Wario game) that were disguised as regular videos, but ended up taking over the whole page. And CollegeHumor has done some similar things.
I think new media sites are getting better at this. And if the iPad (and the webapp-style magazines it was created for) ever takes off I think we'll see this sort of thing more.
I think premium magazines are going to make a huge comeback on the iPad, with a lot of attention paid to rich media, professional design, and smooth transition effects (none of which the Kindle has).
This makes sense. As a user who expects to have control over the interface of my primary mail client, my first impulse was to hide the Buzz menu by dragging it into the "more" dropdown.
But I don't think a lot of users expect to have control over websites they use -- Facebook changes its interface every other month. Most users probably just ignore most of the page and focus on the two or three features they actually use.
this is amazing. i've always been a big fan of you guys, but this is crazy good!
one piece of advice: the polaroid-type photos flashing in front of the main picture are annoying. either keep them relegated to one spot on the page or give me an easy way to turn them off.
