I am not sure if i would take back someone who is anyway planning to leave.Even if they do they will fire after they are sure you are redundant, that will mess up your visa status. Search and take up any job for the time being and keep looking.
We have a lot of decent developers on our team. But management is still stuck in 90's where everything is done as huge framework building waterfall exercise. The word YAGNI doesnt mean anything to anyone here.
So yea lot of skilled devs are writing useless frameworks when they could have producing real business value.
So I would say the most important thing is the process once you have a decently skilled team.
US still favors family based immigration system . So "highest" doest count in this context when compared to points ( skill) based system in other countries like UK.

People seem to have started hiring again at least in the US . I heard my boss lament how they are having hard time finding "bodies" ( they apparently need 2.5 resources for some upcoming project ).
I am in similar position but doing a depressing job ( for major portion of the day) takes a physiological toll on you .

If my boss walks in on me watching a movie at work and asks me to get back to work. I would have no problem "coping" with that and a getting back to work . My boss doesnt send me an alter that work is coming . There is never a "conflict".
Not sure where all this advice for obsessive parenting is coming from, lets enjoy our time with our kids instead of designing alert systems or obsessing over their physcology . Kids are not small sized adults .Please...
I grew up in shut the TV and do the homework world ..yea it sucked but its not any worse than many other things that i had no control upon.
