Working for a company and having a good salary could be really nice. You come home, you get to actually relax for the 6 hours of whatever you have every day. That may not seem like a lot, but it's a lot more than you get when you have your own business.
Think about it... Being able to fully relax and not think about your work. It's how we were meant to live.
If you're a professional with a marketable skill, then you don't even have to worry about if your employer goes out of business, because you'll just find another job. There's a lot of freedom in that. You can live out your entire life this way. How can you blame anybody who chooses to live this way?
But I'm one of those people who doesn't think that 6 hours of freedom every day is enough. I'm going to work until I can have the entire weekday to myself, without answering to anybody.
Hahaha. I used to work at a tech company that constantly had happy hours and even dinners out at restaurants together. Eventually I stopped going to all of them because I couldn't handle all these nerds getting drunk and trying to talk faster and louder than the next one. They still tolerated me.
But one day the boss bought some shitty Chinese food for the company lunch and I just went out and got myself a gyro and came back. It was never the same after that.
I'm surprised nobody suggested.. keep doing that crap. Maybe you'll get lucky and your site or your employer will have a liquidity event.
I've been burned out on worthless web software, programming, etc for a long time now. There's not much new and exciting as there was when I was a teenager, learning Linux and programming. I just keep doing it half-assedly now.
The moment when I first played doom hasn't been equaled since. Except maybe the first time I played Quake. Since then, nothing really made me realize that I was looking at the future. Graphics keep getting better but it all seems like it's been done before.
If someone gets their financial advice from a guy pretending to be crazy on TV, like some kind of used car salesman, they need to pull their heads out of their asses. Jim Cramer is entertainment, he's not going to make anybody rich. People who think he lost them money need to shut the fuck up.
