hi Krish, please let me know if I can contribute in any way! I'm probably not as experienced as most people here in terms of technical skills, but speaking from personal experience, a very good friend of mine nearly took his own life few months back. It was a painful experience, I myself had a few days of major depression during the incident, so I was able to understand how hard it is for people who suffer from long-term depression (and even then I'm sure my struggles weren't nearly as difficult as what my friend was going through at that time). I don't hope to see anyone else losing their own life, or losing the ones they love to depression/suicide again.
Imo, suicide is a pretty sensitive topic. Instead of rushing to the technical details and how to build the app, I think it's much more important to carefully study and really understand the people who have had suicide thoughts, what are their struggles, what caused the thought, and how to help them resolve that thought. And it's important to analyze what are the potential issues/risks of the app's design so that it doesn't end up unintentionally bringing more harm than help.
And last but not least, I'm more familiar with the back-end, but willing to do (and learn!) more front-end as well. I hope your project can succeed, good luck!
thank you for taking your time to read this post my friends. I wouldn't be surprised if it was him, making that throwaway account just to post a negative comment.
But anyway, I think I have the need to see a psychiatrist, I've never felt this low/depressed in my life, I'm feeling extremely stressed emotionally and physically. There are a million "what if i have done xxx instead"s going around my head, unstopping feeling of guilt and regrets floating around. I'm afraid I might end up having depression myself.
Regarding his unemployment, I tried to show him job posts before, told him companies that I know. But after all, I'm not like him. I'm just another average 20 y/o going through college, I don't nearly have as much connections in the field as he does.
Yes loving a suicidal person is frustrating, yet I can't pull myself out of it. I can't even talk about the problems to friends in real life, all because I made a promise to him I won't be telling others his secrets. If any other of you reading this feel that I'm "airing my dirty laundry", I'm sorry for taking up this space, I have nowhere else to go.
just called 1-800-SUICIDE, they didn't really give any helpful advice other than telling me ways to calm down myself.. I feel even more helpless now. Thinking about calling the police, not sure if too crazy of a thing to do...
For the first time I know what fear is, my physical strength cannot hold up anymore and I have to sleep, yet all that going through my head is all the possible scenarios that could happen. Had a dream that everything turned out to be okay, woke up at 4am out of excitement, checked phone/messages, still no response. Then realize it was just a dream, and burst in tears again. Going through every corner on the internet to find the smallest trace that he's still okay.. for the first time when people asked me if everything's alright, i responded "no". I have no idea how I can possibly focus on work and normal life today without going through a mental breakdown.
Thank you, I too agree it is a lot of ask for from a person at this age...
But how should I open him up more? He has always been a very quiet person, most friends don't know much about him. And from talking to him i found out he just has secrets after secrets. I respect him and will not be telling these secrets to anyone else as I promised. But it's quite difficult to imagine how he's been holding all these to himself for the whole time, without talking to anyone...
He also tends to pull himself away from everyone, pretending he doesn't care for anything or anyone, but I know he does care, I really do =(
Please don't die, someone somewhere needs you, she hasn't had anyone she enjoys talking to as much in 2 years. She nearly lost her mind when she saw your facebook status, couldn't sleep, couldn't eat, couldn't focus on work, ditched the dinner plan that she had. Tried to phone you every half an hour but you wouldn't pick up.You never knew it was the most fun game jam and hiking she's been to, and how much she enjoys failing at badminton with you. And how sad she is about going back to college because she won't see you as much anymore. And how she's crying her eyes out reading this. Just don't die, please, i beg you.
